Composite Photograph

I have created this composite image from the known photograph of Daniel (c. 1860) and the cabinet photograph purported to be of Daniel in later life. Despite needing to mirror the cabinet photo, the composite shows a remarkable correspondence between the two photos.

Daniel's grandmother finally identified as HARRIETT SWEETING, though the Daniel Family Bible records her as Catherine.

Site Launch

DanielVC.com launches today as a portal to exploring the life and career of Edward St John Daniel VC.

The site presents a summary of more than 15 years of my research into Daniel's extraordinary life. Some visitors may recognise material here that was included in a website I previously maintained that has been inoperative for a few years. I hope that you like the new format and updated content.

Memorial Stone

I have recently heard that Daniel's Memorial headstone at Hokitika Cemetery has been temporarily removed for refurbishment. It will then be returned to the Returned Services Association section of the cemetery. Possibly the occasion may be marked with a ceremony.
